Josef Hycl, M.D.

Josef Hycl, M.D. is the renowned Czech eye microsurgeon, co-founder of the eye clinics NeoVize Brno and NeoVízia Bratislava, medical director of both clinics. He performed a surgical procedure of correcting a refractive error with the method femtoLASIK on the chief doctor Radovan Piovarči in 2010.

Dr. Josef Hycl is a graduate from the Faculty of General Medicine of Charles University in Prague. Dr. Hycl passed the first and second degrees of the qualification examination in eye surgery. After his graduation he worked at the Eye Clinic of the First Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague and at the Lexum Eye Clinic. He worked abroad as well - he worked for the prestigious clinic of Ultralase in Great Britain and in the London Centre for Refractive Surgery. During his practice he worked as the Chief of Staff at the Eye Department of the General Teaching Hospital, the Chief of Staff at the Lexum Eye Clinic, an assistant specialist at the Lexum Eye Clinic and the medical director of the Lexum Eye Clinic.

 Dr. Josef Hycl founded several important Czech and Slovak eye clinics:

  • 1993 – Eye Clinic Lexum
  • 2008 - Eye Clinic NeoVize Brno
  • 2010 - Eye Clinic NeoVízia Bratislava

 

Dr. Hycl was an assistant specialist at the First Eye Clinic of the Faculty of Medicine of Charles University in Prague where he gave lectures to medical students on the subject of cataract and refractive surgery.

He focused on teaching microsurgery during his whole professional carreer, and he taught a lot of renowned eye surgeons and refractive specialists. He has been involved in teaching within the International cataract school, organized by the ČSRKCH. 

Dr. Hycl was the first doctor in the Czech Republic, who performed a laser vision correction with a femtosecond laser (London, April 2006), and also the first doctor, who implemented the femtosecond laser Zeiss VisuMax into a routine practice in the Czech Republic (9/2008). He was the first doctor in the Czech Republic to perform a dioptric surgical procedure with the LASIK method on a child (2006).

In ophthalmology, he further focused on microsurgical treatments of cataract, treatmets of refractive errors with the help of laser and implantation methods, implantations ICRS, surgical treatments of glaucoma and corneal diseases. During his practice, he performed more than 20.000 eye surgeries.

Dr. Josef Hycl completed a number of study programmes at clinics in the USA, Germany, Austria and France. He is the author of more than 40 domestic and foreign scientific publications. He delivered more than 200 scientific lectures and information at domestic and foreign symposia. He is the author of a textbook on eye medicine and Atlas of Ophthalmology and other books.

Dr. Hycl is a member of the Czech Society of Ophthalmology, the Czech Medical Chamber and the J.E.P. Medical Association. Dr. Hycl is a member of the Board of Supervisors of the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (ČSRKCH). He is also member of American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Refractive Surgeons, European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and New York Academy of Sciences, the American Society of Refractive Surgeons, the European Society of Refractive Surgeons, a member of ČSRKCH and a member of the supervisory board of the Czech Society of Refractive and Cataract Surgery (ČSRKCH).

Dr. Josef Hycl passed away on February 23rd 2011.
